~~Elizabeth H Swenson, age 86, passed away peacefully in Anchorage, Alaska on Thursday, November 2, 2017. She was born in Philadelphia, PA on May 10, 1931 and adopted by David Merton and Katherine Davis Hunt. She was a graduate of the University of Maryland, member of Alpha Omicron Pi sorority, and married her college sweetheart, Arne E Swenson in 1953. “Libby” enthusiastically embraced her degree in Education and love for children, teaching Kindergarten and Special Education. Libby and her husband adopted the first of four children in 1959, all from the same agency where Libby herself was adopted. Her children attended school in the same district Libby had attended as a child and taught in as an educator. Her greatest joys were her summers at the beach house named, “Bedlam” in Ocean City, NJ which was always open to the neighborhood children. There she and her husband spent time laughing, socializing and enjoying the company of their children, and loving extended family and friends. Libby was very active in the community including the Woman’s Club of Bala Cynwyd, Sunshine Foundation, and Lion’s Club. She was significant in the lives of her children and grandchildren, an avid reader and enjoyed her dogs, travel, gardening, flea markets and a good sale!
She is survived by her four children Jeffrey Swenson, Barbara Swenson, Andrew Swenson, Carolyn Swenson; three Granddaughters and two Grandsons; one niece and two nephews. Libby was preceded in death by her husband Arne E Swenson, and beloved brother David P Hunt. Memorial services will be held on Saturday, January 6, 2018 at Godfrey Funeral Home of Palermo, 644 South Shore Road, Palermo, NJ. The family will greet friends from 10:00-11:00am followed by a Celebration of Life service. Burial will follow at Seaside Cemetery. Memorials may be made in Libby’s name to Turning Points for Children, 415 South 15th Street, Philadelphia, PA 19146 (formerly Children’s Aid Society of Philadelphia).
