Our Story

Since our founding, the guiding principle of The Godfrey Funeral Home has been the commitment to treating each family who comes to us as our own. With sincerity, pride, and dedication, we are committed to this time-honored tradition.

In 1896, Mark Lake, an ancestor to the Godfrey family established the funeral home in Ocean City. As the years passed the business was bought by J. Prescott Cadman in 1926 and named Cadman Funeral Home. After a few years the name was again changed to Cadman-Smith Funeral Home. Herbert L. Godfrey acquired the business in the 60's and changed the name to Godfrey Funeral Home. The business expanded in 1971 adding our second location in Palermo. The funeral profession has remained a tradition in the Godfrey family with two of Herbert L. Godfrey's children, Sallie and Herbert II now running the funeral home and recently adding the third location in Egg Harbor Township.

We remain committed to those we have served in the past and those we will serve in the future. Our reputation for providing the highest quality of service has grown, and today we are privileged to serve the families of Cape May and Atlantic County. Our staff of highly qualified and deeply caring individuals is dedicated to continuing the funeral home's mission of providing excellence in service to families in their time of need.

Whether you have an immediate need for our services or you wish to begin pre-planning a funeral arrangement for you or someone you love, we will be proud to serve you.
