JOHN STEPHEN BENNIS


John Stephen Bennis, devoted son, brother and friend, passed away on April 30, 2023, at Shore Memorial Hospital in Somers Point, NJ, at the age of 66. John was born on July 31, 1956, at Hackensack Hospital to the late Joseph Bennis and Mary McNamee Bennis. He lived in Bogota, NJ and later in Dennis Township, NJ.

John graduated from Bogota High School and was a proud Volunteer Fireman for Bogota Fire Company #3 for many years and rose to Captain, First Lt. and Treasurer during that time. He was also a member of the Dennisville Fire Company. John was a member of Local 27 Sheet Metal Workers Union until his retirement.

Throughout his life, John enjoyed many hobbies. He loved riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle and was a proud member of A.M.A. In 2006, John piloted his solo sailplane flight and was a member of the Soaring Society of America. He also spent time canoeing and fishing on local waterways in South Jersey. 

John is survived by his sisters, Patricia Pisano, Elizabeth Balemian(Aram) and brothers, Joseph, Thomas (Carol) and Robert (Peggy). Nieces and nephews, Aimee, Jim, Michael, Matt, Valerie, Christopher, MariLee, Laurel, Taylor and Ryan. John also leaves behind his loving friend Mae and dog Codey. 

John was predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Mary Bennis and brother James. John’s legacy will live on through the love and memories shared by all who knew him.
